Conclusion from Track Nationals

After the Scratch race and my crash, the next day followed the point’s race. In the morning session I failed to qualify for the points race final that night by 1 point. I was really disappointed in myself and I had no excuse for not making the final.

The final day of nationals I had the Madison whom I was paired with Chad Hartley. The 160-lap race started off really fast and things got heated quickly. Mike Freedman and Brad off attacked hard in the middle of the race and quickly gained a lap. Later in the race Chad and myself attacked and gained a lap but also help Mike gain yet another lap.
At this point Cref team 1 is up two laps and us Cref team 2 are up 1 lap. I tried later to gain another lap but we were unsuccessful. I cramped really bad in both legs and I suffered big time for the last 30 laps of the race. I really hurt myself from the crash days before and it only showed up 2 days later. Cref team 1 won the Madison and we were 2nd.

So I got on the podium with a silver medal and didn’t walk away empty-handed.

I have some important news ill release later this week. Please stay tuned.

Scrach Race Final 2006

Scratch race final.

The Final of the scratch on paper looked to be very exciting. I had 4 other teammates who could win from a break or they could give me the lead out from hell.

The first 20 laps of the 60-lap race were pretty moderate until guys started to attack. Tiaa-Cref was doing most of the damage until Danny Pate, Mike Creed (cref) and Jamie Carney (team fuji) had a gap that look to be promising. A few laps later, an horrific crash happen with 18 to go and I just getting caught in the mess. I went down on my ass and it hurts sitting here typing this. Carney’s teammate got the worse of the crash by hitting his head and loosing lots of blood. After the race came to a stop, we had a 30-35 minute break from racing while they attended to the riders and also fixing up the track.

Once the race got started, they gave the three leaders their lead back and the group had to chase. With 3 to go, I was sitting 5th wheel on Mike Creed’s wheel and he just sat up taking to the apron. And what I think happen is that we let our emotions get caught up in trying to beat and or fuck Carney that we fucked ourselves. 5 guys from Cref no one in the top 10.

2 days till track natz

Just two days away from the Elite Track Championships and I don’t feel so bad. I know for sure I can go fast for 10 laps but the test will come when I have to go fast for 2 laps, recover and go fast for 3 more laps and recover and so on and so on. I think my fitness is a little low but my speed is there.

The whole team got here to Los Angeles last Friday and the majority of the guys have been working on team pursuit and individual pursuit. Basically, we are the supporting cast and the pursuit guys are what we are here for.

Wednesday is the day for me. I want to win the scratch race and that’s on Wednesday morning being the qualifier and Wednesday night being the final.

Talk to you later.

Weekend of Track Racing (socal) state championships

California Track State Championships

After Saturday’s racing, I knew things had to get better for me because if they got worse, I would be in deep trouble.

In the 120-lap points race it was just hard for me to breath and my chest hurt like hell.
I finished 5th after two guys lap the field late in the race.

Sunday, I decided I would do the sprints and the Madison. I haven’t done a 200m TT in about 3-4 years but Sunday I thought I would give it a go. The Fastest Time of the day was set and it was a 10.89. I did an 11.40. For those of you who don’t know what’s fast is, elite track sprinters do 10.2-10.3 at the ADT track. So for a guy like me with nothing but road miles and a Madison bike with road bars to do a 11.4 was pretty good and some what embarrassing for the two guys ahead of me that beat me by 100th of a second.

The first round of sprints I was paired up against the guy who went 100th of a second faster than me….he spank me!
So now my sprints are over.

I gear up for the Madison, which I am doing with an up, and comer rider Cody O'Reilly and we had a pretty good race. The pace wasn’t as fast as I thought it was going to be, but maybe I felt good. I won the first three sprints by flying by each rider in the last 100m.

So we won the Madison and ended the weekend on a good note. Only 2 1/2 weeks until track nationals and I hope to get closer to 100% by then.

Cali State Track Championships

Tomorrow (Sat) the ADT center will host the California Track State Championships and ill be racing the scratch race, points race and Madison. The Points and Madison is on Sunday while the Scratch race is Saturday.

Wish me luck and I think I may be a broadbandracer video blog for this.

Thursday night, Chad Miliken and I drove down to San Diego to motor pace on the track and last night was a really good night for me. I did flying 10 lappers first 5 at 36/38 and the last four at 45 and the last lap at 48 tapping out the motor.

The Tiaa-Cref track team will be here next week and we will have a mini camp before track natz.

Sept. 10th 2006

I know, I know. It’s been some time and most are wondering what happen to me.
All I can say is that I did my first weekend of riding sense the accident and I’m making a speedy recovery.

I went out to a “Food Park” group ride near Laguna Beach, Ca and it’s so nice out there. The ride starts in Irvin and makes it’s way to Laguna and back. The ride is “masters haven”. It’s so many fit, insane, strong masters out there its funny how well they ride. Well maybe not funny but crazy.

I did most of the ride with the “Labor Power” team, Roger Worthington, Jason Bauch, Evin Taskie and some other cool guys.

This Monday I will start the track and hopefully it goes well. Its about 3 1/2 weeks till the track nationals and ill be ready!

Check back as I start to give you a journal of my training up to Track Nationals.

And the picture of the week…..
I was later fired for allowing a two drink minimal.
