Downers Grove was GREAT!!!!!

Pro Am Race-Downers Grove, IL

The Pro Am race is always a fast and crazy race only because they allow the pros and the elites to race together. It’s always over 200 guys racing on small down town streets of Downers.
In the past, I usually just relax; don’t take any risk and just ride just to wake my legs up from the flight over. Well this year was no different. I rode the race from the front after being called to the line by the great Eddy Vangies. So sense I had an introduction, I gave the fans a little sneak peak of what they would get the next day.

That night Erik’s host house invited the guys over for dinner and to meet everyone. It was fantastic, the food was good, the people were great and the home was magnificent.
At dinner I was telling the guys that all I have to do is beat Tyler. He is the fastest American that has a team that can help him win…no one else really have a chance. “So get me to his wheel and I have a shot.”

After going to sleep at around 3am Sunday morning, (because I couldn’t sleep) I woke up and ate breakfast in the Hotel restaurant. I had apple French toast on sour dough bread, it was really good.
I get back to the room and I got ready for a little ride to wake up the legs for the day’s race. After my hour ride, I’m relaxing in the hotel and Erik calls and says…”we aint racing dude”, I thought he was joking around.

He said dude we cant race we did not meet the 6 man race limit and we don’t have a team manager here. My heart dropped so far, I had to head down to the lobby to pick it up. After attempting to understand what was really going on, I figured ill call some other team directors to see if I could get a ride with them, I mean I really wanted to race. I Called jelly belly and Danny said hell yeah; we have 7 you can ride with us. Called Sea Silver and Steve Hegg also said hell yeah.
However under new rules, it was nothing they could do. I wasn’t on their teams roster so it was a done deal… were not racing.

I couldn’t stomach what had just happen. I mean the national championships, I race that I could do well in…and I can’t race. What a bomber. Sitting in the hotel room was not helping me so I went down to the race and just sat in an Irish pub the whole time thinking about other things?

Ill be writing a book entitled “How not to run a team”.

Look for it soon

Pics

I have some cool pics to upload. Stay tuned and you can see Eric and I in action.

see ya

madison..it was really shady..please read and tell me what you think

Madison

Today was the last day that Erik and I could leave track nationals with a medal. Erik was super confidant that we could win the Madison and I was bit skeptical because how my legs have been feeling lately.

I try and keep this one short because there were a lot of shady things going on today at the track.

Problems
1. They changed the session to 11am and second session at 1pm where before it was set to have just one session at 1pm. So that meant we road an 80lap Madison qualifier and then 35 minutes later raced the 160 lap final. Yes that hurt.
2. In the race there were 3 teams that where hired, paid, helped or what ever you want to call it, each other out and that made it hard for guys like Erik and I who had no help and was still putting the hurt on. Okay here is the story…once again ill try and keep it short.

World’s team member and Olympic team member Colby Pierce from TIAA CREFF gathered up Texas Road House riders and Mercy riders to ride for them in the Madison. Texas roadhouse had Mr. Tulsan, which is a pretty good rider very fast Master and Mercy who has Brad Huff National pursuit champion (2005).

Clue #1 within the first 20 laps Mercy was down 1 lap. After being caught by the field, Brad Huff attacks like a mad man and clue # 2 soon later Colby chasses him down. Why would you chase a lapped rider? Okay ill try and conclude my story.

I don’t know if Eric and I would have won anyway, however I was the fastest guy out there and we where sitting second for a while, knowing that we had a chance to win. I really didn’t care that Colby and those guys had a little alliance, because it happens all the time and honestly it’s not that big of deal. But the boiling point was after the race Mike Freedman from the Northwest told Eric and I and I quote “ yeah man yesterday brad Huff comes over to me and says, I just want you to know that what ever happens tomorrow, you have to promise me that we will still be friends.”

That they’re showed me it was planed.

Anyway Erik and I got 3rd and for the podium northwest, which got 2nd, protest and didn’t show for the podium. The lame officials said they didn’t see it happen and when ask what race they were watching, there was no response.

Follow up...track stuff

For those of you that were looking for my race results from the scratch race final and points race… I didn’t have any. I’m not sure where my legs went. Almost everything I did was pretty much uncharacteristic of me. Well…at least I thought I was halfway decent at track racing.

The scratch race plan and simple I missed the boat by missing the main move, which never came back. The scratch was a race I knew 100% that I could win, however things just didn’t work out for me.

The point’s race was pure disaster. I was under geared and within 20 laps I was cramping in ass from spinning so much.

Scratch Race Heat

This morning, I woke up after having a weird night of sleep. I just went to sleep really agitated and any little thing was ticking me off. I mean I understand why these things were happing however I couldn’t stop it. I had been so nervous thinking about my race, it was driving me crazy.

My coach called me and let me know that even though the session starts at 9am I would not be riding until about 12:30 1pm. It was cool that I knew that but I just couldn’t relax at home. So to ease my nerves I left at 11:30 at that got me there at noon.

The Race:
My heat had Jonas Carney and he is a trip. He’s walking around the end field with a back brace on telling people “I can’t bend over” it’s all psychological games for him.
When I got to the rail for start, he goes “ so are you riding a track gear or a road gear” that’s just an indirect way to ask me, what gear I’m in.

The race was pretty slow for the most part I few guys tried getting away but it all came back to have a mass field sprint at the end of a 30 lap qualifier.
I qualified 2nd behind my training partner Chad Milliken.

The final will be a whole different story. It will be much faster, more attacks and I know for sure that Jamie Carney will have his 4 teammates leading him out.

Stay tuned

Eric Said it...

For those of you who reads eriksaunders.com you already know what happen to us at the worlds best crit held in Charlotte NC. $125,000 up for grabs and we all came home empty handed.
I had good legs and with the race coming to the end I was okay position to contest the sprint however I hit the deck with a Subway guy whom which we crashed earlier in tree race together.

After the race I had way to many thought about the race, my teammates and myself. This is by far the worse race of my young career.

Next up track natz...

I leave for Bank of America Crit on the 6th, the day before the race. I get back home on the 8th and start Elite track natz on the 10th. I could be Scratch race national champion in just 6 days...Wish me luck.

ill ride the BofA crit really easy taking no chances, winning a national title is more important me and my future.

I hope to get my computer back today from Apple...
